Jet Patching Carriageway Repairs Programme – Whitecastle Area
As part of Monmouthshire County Council’s carriageway repair programme, I am pleased to inform the Community Council that localised carriageway repair works using the jet patching process are scheduled to be undertaken in your ward during the week commencing 27th April.
It is intended to undertake repairs using a jet patching vehicle on a number of roads in the area shown in red on the attached plans. These works are being undertaken as part of a wider project assessing alternative processes and materials used in the repair of our roads. While it is not possible to repair minor defects, the more significant surface defects that would normally meet our intervention criteria along the sections of carriageway highlighted will be addressed. The jet patching system utilises a self-contained vehicle and while there may be some localised disruption, as the works are mobile, this should be kept to a minimum and I trust residents will be understanding should they encounter the team.
A Report on the Jet Sprayer Trial May 2026
Firstly, thank you for working with us in identifying the priorities for the local communities. As you know, we were running the trial with the jet patching vehicle over two weeks with the first week being in the Whitecastle area. The aim of the trial was to gain an understanding of how it operates, how durable the repairs will be in these environments and how effective it could be in Monmouthshire going forward.
The operation was set up on a “find and fix” basis and although the process was productive, the area we had to cover and the number of defects were challenging so the progress across the area as a whole was not as extensive as we had originally hoped.
We understand that there are still a number of defects out there and our highways teams will now follow up this work with further pothole repairs.
I know that the Community Council are very good at using them but, as always, I would encourage the use of the app or web site to report potholes to ensure that they are captured.
