Footbridge Closures update
Published: 08 September 2025
The community council is working closely with the Rights of Way department in Monmouthshire County Council to resolve the problems which have led to the footbridge closures.
The closed footbridge over the Trothy at Tal-y-Coed (marked by a red circle on the map) has made it more difficult for residents of Llantilio Crossenny to walk to the local pub (The Halfway) at Tal-y-coed using footpath 369/57/3. The community council has identified that the alternative route (369/291/1) avoids the closed footbridge but this route is less well maintained and there is no fingerpost at the point where it joins the B4233 (marked by the yellow circle on the map). The county council has agreed to meet the community council to discuss how to clear and sign this alternative route from Llantilio Crossenny to Tal-yCoed.

The county council has informed the community council that WSP (who provides a wide range of hydraulic and hydrological modelling solutions for watercourses) were on site undertaking a geomorphological study this week. Once the report is written we should hopefully have a better understanding of where, how and what bridges are required at Talycoed and Newhouse along with an estimate of cost.
